Soldiers using iPhones in the field

Posted by etechx on April 20, 2009

Currently, soldiers are using iPhones and iPod Touches in the field both as translation devices and also to display classified information. While these iPhones are modified by software, hopefully there is modified hardware as well to transmit the information securely over a commercial network or have adapted hardware to use satellite communication (what else are you going to do when you are in the desert with no cell towers!). It’s surprising that the Government isn’t working directly with Apple to manufacture new devices for the military (considering almost every major technology company has a government division).
